Should DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) be Terminated ?

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a program that allows young people who are non-U.S children come to the country and stay permanently under protection from deportation. The program was launched by President Barack Obama in 2012, and it has created a lot of opportunities for children to live, to stay, to work in the U.S for a better life. The program, however, does not provide a pathway to citizenship, and people who enroll in have to extend their status every two years. Since Trump administration put an end mark in 2017, there is no new applicants have been accepted but immigrants who already have status are still able to renew it until the Supreme Court issues a final ruling. Personally, I think that the program should not be terminated due to several reasons below.

First of all, in order to receive DACA status, applicants have to go through a long, difficult process including steps of background and criminal records check. Therefore, those are the ones come to this country for good intentions only, and they deserve an opportunity to stay and live in this country. Terminating DACA recipients would create harm for no good reason. This will result those children are likely to suffer considerable harm who have to leave their motherland and go back to a country that they are not familiar with.

In addition to this, ending DACA program would also damage the U.S economy. children who are brought to this country under "DREAM act" are also the ones that have real contributions to this country. Many Dreamers arrived in this country as a very young age. They grow up speaking English, and this country becomes their only home. As a result, children who come here under DACA status are as American as anyone who is native-born. They have opportunities to receive a better education. They are the people who work for our country growth. They are the real people with real families that made real contributions for this country. And we cannot deny that way.

Clearly, ending DACA doesn't make the country better, but it turns out harmful and creates impacts on our economy. Trump policy is just cruel when he puts an end mark on the program and opposes legislation to protect dreamers.
