Most Republicans and Democrats agree: Immigrants make the U.S. a better place to live

In response to the article: Most Republicans and Democrats agree: Immigrants make the U.S. a better place to live by Sarah Parvini - staff writer of The Los Angeles Times news, I would like to point out the statistics and the evidence about the voters that are used in order to support the immigrants side as well as the author’s opinion about how most republicans and democrats agree that immigrants make the U.S a better place.

Initially, the author starts off informing the readers about republicans and democrats voters in California agree on the opinion that immigrants helps this country a better place, by giving the percentage of the number of voters who agree on that opinion “More than 80% of registered voters in the state concur with that opinion, according to the latest UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll conducted for the Los Angeles Times. About 92% of Democrats and 60% of Republicans are in agreement.” That is the majority number of voters who concur with the opinion. Next, the author also gives her opinion about how the idea of immigrants in California is different than anywhere else. That is most of people over there understand and accept immigrants as a part of their culture from students to entrepreneurs -- “as part of a wide and varied landscape“. Clearly, we can see that the author seems to against president Trump’s administration on immigrants, and she is more toward who supports immigrant side rather than Trump who is trying to cut down the number of immigrants and asylum as much as possible. The author also points out different points of view that how illegal and legal immigrants are treated differently and unfairly by giving the statistic: “The Institute of Governmental Studies poll found less consensus among California voters on how immigrants are treated. Some 56% of voters believe that immigrants are treated unfairly in the U.S. Just 28% of voters disagreed”. This number is also affected by voter in different generation. Majority of millenial voters tend to agree with this idea rather than voters who are in boomer-plus generation “While 66% of millennials believe that immigrants are unfairly treated, voters in the boomer-plus generation -- those over 54 -- are more divided, with 49% agreeing, 34% disagreeing and 17% having no opinion, according to the poll.

In my opinion, I agree with the idea that immigrants make the U.S a better place, and that is the tradition of this country: a land of immigrants the greatness of the United States. The author is very successful in terms of informing the readers that republican and democratic voters agree that immigrants make the U.S a better place giving compelling facts and statistical number in order to support her idea.
